The Midwit Paradox: Why Thinking You’re Smarter Might Be Holding You Back

Do you feel stuck in a situation where things are too complicated, and you cannot approach it with simplicity?

The midwit paradox story comes from the stupid guy on the left who told himself a guy on the left, the woke guy in the middle told himself he was the guy on the right, and the brilliant guy on the right perceives himself as the guy on the left.

There’s a disease that comes from this paradox called the midwit syndrome.

The midwit syndrome happens when the guy in the middle thinks he’s smarter than he actually is and pursues non-obvious complex solutions rather than the obvious simple solutions.

It warns against the trap of overcomplicating solutions or striving for intellectual superiority, which can lead to ineffective or convoluted strategies.

There are three rules to cure the midwit syndrome:

1st rule is to admit you are not the guy on the right.

2nd rule is that you need to be the guy on the left.

3rd rule is to think inversion.

For example, say you want to lose weight in 2024.

The first thing that the midwit would do is do research on how to lose weight in 8 weeks by watching a bunch of YouTube videos, reading scientific papers, joining weight courses from his favorite wellness influencers, and coming up with detailed steps by steps needed to lose weight.

That’s a recipe for disaster to end up miserable as a woke guy in the middle of the curve.

Instead, ask yourself this question:

“How can I ensure I’m gaining weight in 2024?”

  1. Eat a lot and fast.
  2. Snacking.
  3. Living sedentarily.
  4. Eat more calories than what I expand.

Those questions will ensure you become the stupid guy on the left, and then you can start making these plans:

  1. Eat properly; eat slow.
  2. Avoid processed foods.
  3. Workout more.
  4. Walk more.
  5. Eat less caloric than what I expand.

Looks easy and simple, right?

Becoming the stupid guy on the left encourages us to identify and avoid behaviors that lead to failure, thus revealing the clear and simple paths to success.

By emphasizing simplicity, consistency, and enjoyment, we can avoid overthinking and achieve goals more efficiently and satisfactorily.

So, what midwit syndrome would you want to overcome in 2024?
